Privacy Policy
The short version: everything you track in Beniii TV stays on your iPhone. If you choose to use Friends, our server keeps only what Friends needs to work, never your moods, notes, ratings or watch history, and chat messages only until they reach your friend's phone.
What stays on your iPhone
Your watch history and ticked episodes, ratings, notes and takeaways, mood check-ins and the mood journal, titles you added yourself, your saved quotes, your profile (name, nickname, birthday, schedule, family members and preferences), your profile photo and your Title Talk chat history are stored only on your iPhone. If you make a backup, the file is saved where you choose (for example in the Files app) and is yours.
Movie and show information
To show titles, episodes, ratings and where to watch, the app asks our server for movie and show information. Our server only sees which title or search is requested and standard technical data that every internet request carries, such as your IP address. We don't store this or link it to you. Our server runs on Cloudflare, which processes this technical data to deliver and protect the service under its own privacy policy.
Our server gets the information from TMDB (The Movie Database). TMDB sees our server, not you. Posters, episode images and streaming logos load directly from TMDB's public image servers, which, like any website, receive your IP address when your device downloads an image. Streaming availability is provided by JustWatch through TMDB.
Friends (optional)
Everything above works without an account. Friends, Title Talk, the daily riddle and challenges need one, created with Sign in with Apple. We receive a private Apple identifier for your account; we don't store your email address, even if Apple shares one.
When you use Friends, our server stores:
- Your profile: username, display name, avatar choice, friend code and privacy choices, plus your time zone and bedtime window so notifications stay quiet at night.
- Your connections: friends, friend requests and people you blocked.
- What you share: titles and app lines you send to friends, emoji reactions, and who received them.
- Online status: if you allow it, whether you're online and which library title you're watching, for 90 minutes at most. Ghost mode turns this off completely.
- Title Talk messages: made only of movie and show titles, emojis and ? ! …. Each message is kept on our server only until it reaches every recipient's phone, then deleted. A message that never arrives is deleted after 30 days. Reactions, Watch together replies and "delete for everyone" are handled the same way. To allow "delete for everyone" within one hour, we keep the message's id, sender and time (not its content) for one hour.
- The daily riddle: your guesses, the time you solved it and your streak.
- Challenges and milestones: if you share milestones (on by default, you can turn it off), the milestone names (like "100 episodes"), weekly counts for the leaderboard (episodes watched, laughter days, your streak, takeaways written, never which titles), challenges you start or accept and the winner. Titles you added yourself are never sent.
- Reports: if you report someone, the report and, for a message, a copy of the reported message so a moderator can review it.
- Notifications: your device's push token, so we can send you friend notifications through Apple.
We never receive your moods, mood check-ins, notes, takeaways, ratings, watch history, profile photo or saved quotes, and no one can find you by searching: friends add you by your exact username, friend code or QR code.
Your chats
Title Talk chats are saved on your iPhone until you delete a message, a chat or your account. Because our server deletes messages once they are delivered, it can't restore them: on a new iPhone, your chats come back only from your own backup (Settings › Export my data, and the weekly backup on your iPhone).
No ads, no tracking, no selling
The app has no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools and no third-party SDKs. We don't sell, rent or share your data, and we don't use it for anything but running Friends.
Notifications, photos, camera and Face ID
Reminders, motivation lines and new-episode alerts are scheduled on your iPhone. Friend notifications (a share, a message, a friend's milestone, a riddle solve, tonight's riddle answer) are sent by our server through Apple's push service; you can turn each kind off in Settings › Account or in iOS Settings. If you choose a profile photo, a poster for your own title, or take a photo, it stays in the app on your iPhone. The QR code scanner uses the camera only on your iPhone. Face ID is handled by iOS; the app never sees your face data.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
Friends data stays on our server while you have an account, except chat messages (deleted on delivery, at most 30 days), the 1-hour delete log and weekly counts (this week and last week only). Delete your account any time in Settings › Account › Delete my account: your profile, friends, shares, reactions, messages, riddle and challenge data are deleted from our server, Sign in with Apple is revoked, and your chats are removed from your iPhone. Reports you filed are kept without your name so moderation can continue.
To erase what's on your iPhone, use Settings › My data › Delete everything, or delete the app. Backup files you saved elsewhere can be deleted like any other file.
Children
Friends is for people 13 and older. Beniii TV is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. Family mode helps adults pick titles to watch together.
The mood feature
Mood check-ins and estimates are a personal reflection tool, not a medical tool, and nothing about them leaves your iPhone. If you're in crisis in the US, you can call or text 988 at any time.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
